The Brooklyn Bedroom Sessions
Side by Side – Single
Madison, Wisconsin native Jason Ewald grew up in a musical household, and began honing his rhythmic foundation dancing to Creedence Clearwater Revival records while his father played along on the drums. Before he could legally enter, he would set up outside of Madison’s King Club to listen to Clyde Stubblefield’s (James Brown’s ‘Funky Drummer’) Monday jam session.
Jason moved to San Francisco in the late ’90s, where he took to the vital jazz scene, playing with numerous groups and delving into straight-ahead and Brazilian styles. After inspiring stays in Brazil and Spain, he also began exploring his own direction as a songwriter and bandleader.
Since arriving in New York City in 2007, Jason has seen his creative growth blossom, fed by the hum of city life and the energy of its inhabitants. His music is inspired by the refined sounds of 70s pop, the greasy soul of Muscle Shoals, the explorations of jazz, and the insistent rhythms of funk and rock.
He has recently written and self-produced two albums, and can be seen performing live with his band EWALD, featuring Jason on drums and lead vocals.
